Resident’s Letter
July 2010
Dear Business / Resident
MATHEW STREET FESTIVAL 29 – 30 AUGUST 2010
The City’s annual Mathew Street Music Festival will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, 29 – 30 August 2010. There will be six stages located throughout the city centre at the Birkenhead Tunnel – Old Haymarket, Williamson Square, Derby Square, Exchange Street East, Tithebarn Street and Water Street on both days.
To enable the stages to be installed and to enable the public to safely go around them a number of road closures for all traffic will be in place. A full copy of the order is available on request, but to summarise;
- William Brown Street will close from 6.30am Saturday 28 August until 11.59pm Monday 30 August.
- The Birkenhead Tunnel will close from 10.00pm Saturday 28 August until 6.30am Tuesday 31 August
- Water St from Castle St to the Strand will close from 6.30pm Saturday 28 August until 11.59pm Monday 30 August
- Tithebarn St will close from Cheapside to Hatton Garden 6.30pm Saturday 28 August until 11.59pm Monday 30 August.
- Byrom St at its junction with Hunter St to Old Haymarket will close from 10.00pm Saturday 28 August until 11.59pm Monday 30 August.
- Queen Square Bus Station will be closed on both Sunday 29 August and Monday 30 August . Replacement services will run from Lime Street on both days.
- Lime Street will be closed to general traffic from the hours of 6.00am – 7.30pm (approximately) on Sunday 29 August and Monday 30 August.
- All roads within the perimeter of the site will close between 9.00am and 9.00pm on Sunday 29 August and Monday 30 August; the perimeter is James St, Brunswick St and Water St at their junction with the Strand; the junction Old Hall St and Chapel St, Ormond St, Pall Mall and Tithebarn St and Lime Street at its junction with London Road, Skelhorne Street and Copperas Hill.
It will be unlawful for vehicles to move within the Festival site at any time from when the closures are implemented. We will however, endeavour to allow vehicle access off the site at all times, but this will very much depend on the numbers of people in the area.
Deliveries will be facilitated up to 9.00am each day, but there is a strict 10.00am curfew on vehicle movement, other than emergency services within the site. The delivery route for the Sunday and the Monday will be via the Strand and James Street.
All closures will be signed and stewarded. They will remain in force only for as long as is deemed necessary.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your appreciation of the situation and your patience and co-operation over the weekend. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Culture Liverpool on 0151 233 3000 or email us at events@liverpool.gov.uk
