As we celebrate its 19th year, the Mathew Street Music Festival is a great symbol of what music means to this city and how we enjoy celebrating it.
The line-up for the 2011 festival will make for a great weekend of music for all ages and tastes. The new themes are a brilliant addition and ensure the festival remains fresh and vibrant. They also show how the city has influenced the world and underlines why we are bidding to England’s first UNESCO City of Music.
For those of you who have never experienced the event – our only advice is to make sure you get to see as much as you can, as there is so much to do and see. For those who have been before, thank you for your continuing support in making this such a fantastic festival.
You will all be pleased to know that the city is once again providing six outdoor live stages over the two days and we are delighted to be running the fringe festival for its 4th year – across more than 40 indoor venues.
So thank you to everyone involved in making this festival happen – from the stage builders and musicians to street cleaners and the pubs and clubs, and not forgetting the uniformed services. As a European Cultural Capital, you’ll also find there are plenty of other things to do – from museums and galleries to world class shopping and a World Heritage waterfront. So explore. And above all, enjoy.
